Ask me about our new Math activity, Collect 15 Together. We use dice with the numbers one through three and roll two (each partner rolls a dice), then we add them up and build that many on our 15 frame. The goal is to build 15. We also think and talk about how many more we need each time to make 15. We are using our math strategies!
Ask me about my reading muscles! We have been making them strong all year and our hard work is paying off! We are reading books that are exercising our reading muscles. We are reading tricky words, new words and books with surprise endings!!! Ask me about all of the exciting things that happened this week!!! On Tuesday, we had an author visit with Christine Ieronimo. She shared the story she wrote with us called, A Thirst For Home. The book she wrote is a realistic fiction story based on her daughter, Eva, who she and her family adopted from Ethiopia. We learned how water is life and connects us all. We also learned what life is life in Ethiopia and that people have to walk 3 miles one way to get water. This week we also had our Enrichment Assembly wrap-up. We got to see all of the things that each cluster did. There was dancing, lego making, bracelets, mandalas, news reporting, cartoon drawing, yoga and mathketball. We loved seeing everything our friends did and can't wait for the next round of clusters! Ask me about Mr. Green. He is the science man who came to visit our class today. We learned even more about the five senses. Did you know if you hold your nose, you can't taste what you are eating? We also learned not to put anything in our ears because it can damage our ear drum. We got to try some different experiments with our senses as well. We had so much fun! Ask me about our Spanish Day. We watched an awesome performance and then we got to spend time with friends from Warren and Morris. We made rainbows using all the colors of the rainbow in Spanish. We learned how to salsa too. It was very exciting to watch some of our classmates in the special dance that was performed. What a great day!!!
Ask me about our new activity, Vowel Bingo! Today we had a chance to try it out with Mrs. Hubschman. We loved searching for things on our bingo card that had the same vowel sound that she told us. It was a little tricky, but we loved practicing our vowel sounds. Learning is the best!
Ask me about Lexia. 100% of our class met or went above our usage on Lexia for the week! We are so excited to have met our goal. Mrs. Mahar is very proud of us.
Ask me what a super reader does!!! We have been learning all about super readers and what they do. We are super readers and we have super powers.
Here are our super powers! ~We have pointer power ~We have reread power ~We have snap word power ~We have persistence power ~We have book talk power ~We have picture power ~We have partner power ~We have book talk power ~We have sound power We are super readers!!! Ask me what capacity means. Today we used different containers to see what their capacity was. Then we estimated which containers would hold more. We were very surprised that some of the containers were larger than they seemed but we discovered that the container that was short and wide and the one that was skinny and tall held the same amount. We can't wait to try measuring the capacity of more containers!
