This afternoon was our Harvest Parade and celebration. We had so much fun showing off our costumes and sharing our celebration with you. Thank you for coming! Have a Happy Halloween!
Ask me about the Harvest parade and celebration today. This morning we did "pumpkin math." We carved a pumpkin and counted all of the seeds. First, we estimated how many seeds we thought there would be. Then we counted out all of the seeds. We knew that the most efficient way was to put the pumpkin seeds in groups of ten. We counted all of the groups and there were 378 pumpkins seeds!!! This afternoon was our Harvest Parade and celebration. We had so much fun showing off our costumes and sharing our celebration with you. Thank you for coming! Have a Happy Halloween!

Ask me all about Enrichment clusters. Today we had an assembly and learned about all of the enrichment clusters we can choose to be a part of. There was ocean life, legos, cuisines from around the world, cartoon drawing, creative writing, coloring, quilting, photography, folk dance and mathletes. Each cluster presented to us and then we chose our first, second and third choice. We can't wait to find out what cluster we will be a part of. We will be working with students from each grade. I can't wait to share all that I am doing with you!
Ask me all about the laser light show today. Thanks to the Enrichment Committee we had this special presentation this afternoon. We learned about lasers and watched some really cool shows. We saw characters we knew from Toy Story, Shrek and princesses. We even saw Taylor Swift!!! It was so much fun. Ask me all about our morning greeting. This year we are learning Spanish and each morning be begin our day by asking "como estas?" This means "how are you" in Spanish. We respond with, "bien, mas o menos, mal." This means, "good, so-so or bad." Ask me this at home. I love to answer in Spanish.
Ask me all about browsing at the book fair. Today we got to go look at all of the books at the Scholastic Book Fair. There were so many choices. We chose books and sat on the floor to browse them so we could see if it was a book we might want. We shared books with friends and even make suggestions of books that our friends would like. On Thursday (October 22nd), we get to purchase books at the book fair. We can't wait to share books with you
Ask me all about filling our sparkler jar. We have been working very hard in our class to earn sparklers. We can earn them by helping a classmate or teacher, saying something kind and working hard! Mrs. Mahar is so proud of our hard work. We thought of many ideas as our reward and then we voted. The idea that won was to watch a movie and have some popcorn. We watched a movie called, Leap Frog, Talking Words Factory. We learned all about using letters to build words. There were many words that we learned and did you know that if I can spell "at," I can spell many other words too!!! We also learned about "power letters." Those are vowels. A E I O and U are "power letters." After the movie, we looked at our names and identified all the vowels we have. Some of us had a lot of vowels in our names. Ask me to look for vowels when we are reading together at home.
Ask me about the new poem I can read. We have been learning sight words in our classroom and now I can read a special poem. Today we put it into our poetry notebook and illustrated a picture to go with it. Then, we highlighted the word "am" since this is a new sight word we learned! Here is poem we learned...
Ask me about the word "the." I know how to read it and write it! I have been using it in my writing. We even learned a new song about this word. Click on the link below to share this song with me at home!
Ask me all about our fire safety lesson today! Mr. Torizzo came to talk to us all about fire safety. He is a firefighter. He answered our questions and showed us a video about a fire on Sesame Street. We talked about having a special meeting place in case there is ever a fire in our house. His family has a meeting spot, they would meet at their shed. We also learned not to be afraid of firefighters when they are in their gear, because even though they look a little scary, they are only there to help! We got a chance to sit on the firetruck too. Thank you Mr. Torizzo!
Ask me all about being a number detective. Today we were number detectives in Math. We searched for the number one and then had to dot all of the number ones we found using dot markers. There were lots of numbers, but we could only dot the number one! It was a little tricky so we used magnifying glasses to help us find the number we were looking for. We are great detectives.
