Ask me all about writing numbers! Today we worked on writing the numbers 1-9. We got to practice using whiteboards! We know that all the numbers use big lines, small lines, big curves and small curves. We thought that the hardest numbers to write were 5 and 8! We used the wooden pieces to build these numbers too. We are going to keep practicing so we can become number writing experts. At the end of Math, we counted to 100!!! This is one of our favorite songs and we exercised while we were counting. Click on the link below so we can sing together at home.

Ask me all about Art today. We made different kinds of lines. We can use all of these in our writing and illustrations. We made straight lines, zig-zag lines, dotted lines and curved lines. These different kinds of lines will make our pictures even more detailed.
Ask me all about the Harvest Luncheon. We made stewed tomatoes and crock pot greens beans. We got to eat lunch with our families and share all of the special food that everyone at GCS made. There were so many things to try. Check out our video!
Ask me about our new Math center. We are using counting bears to make a number line and then the "card caller" gives us a sequence of numbers and we have to pick the bear that comes next. The card caller checks our bear to see if we are correct! We love practicing our numbers and the order of numbers. Ask me all about writing today. We are working hard to add lots of details to our pictures. Mrs. Keilty told us that she could smell details from our writing. She came down to our classroom today because she could smell the details in our writing all the way from her office! We even started labeling our pictures. Even if we don't know all the sounds in our writing, we wrote down the sounds that we did hear. We love to write and can't wait to share our writing with you.
Ask me about our word of the day, respect! Respect means to treat others the way you want to be treated. We have been talking about this word a lot in our classroom. One of the statements on our class promise is to "be respectful." After we talked about respect, we watched a special video clip about this word. You can watch it below.
Ask me all about picking tomatoes and green beans! We worked with our second grade friends to pick vegetables so that we can make special dishes for the Harvest Luncheon next week. We went out to garden to pick the vegetables, then we came inside to prepare them. It was a lot of fun and we can wait to try stewed tomatoes and crockpot green beans next week! Ask me all about my coconut tree! Today we read the story, Chicka Chicka Boom Boom. It's a silly story about letters that climb up a coconut tree. All of the sudden all the letters fall down!!! There are rhyming words too. Rhyming words are words that sound alike. After we read our story, we made our own coconut tree. First we painted the trunk of the tree. Then we searched through lots of letters to find the letters in our name. After that, we glued the letters on the tree and then used our hands to make the top of the tree. We had to think about all the letters in our name when we were searching for them. We did a great job! We can't wait to show off our coconut trees tonight at open house! Cllick on the link below to listen to this story at home.
Ask me what my five senses are! Today we learned about the five senses. We watched a Brainpop Jr video all about each sense and then talked about all the things we use our senses for. Then we each shared what our favorite smell is...Here are just a few:
-cookies from the oven -blueberries -ice cream -cupcakes -flowers -bread When we are spending time together, encourage me to use my five senses and talk to you about what I am using them for! Ask me all about using the iPads today! During Reading and Math we got to use the iPads to help us learn. First we talked about the important rules for using the iPads. We must be very careful and only use them when we are sitting down or laying on our bellies. We have to be respectful and take care of the iPads so we can use them every day. We used "starfall" and "todo math." Mrs. Mahar was so proud of what a great job we did! We were very focused on our work and remembered the important rules we learned. |
