Ask me all about my "Thankful Turkey." We talked about all of the things we are thankful for and we have a lot to be thankful for! Today was Grandparents/Special Someone Day. We had many visitors in our room to help us today. We were able to show them all of the learning we are doing in our classroom. We made our turkeys with our special visitors. We are very excited for Thanksgiving!

Ask me all about our turkeys that we shared! We read the story, Turkey Trouble and then (with some help from home) we each disguised a turkey so it wouldn't be eaten on Thanksgiving Day. Then we wrote about our turkey and we each shared our turkey with the class and explained all that we did to make it! We couldn't believe all of the different turkeys in our room. Which ones do you think will get away? Ask me all about "Stretchy Snake." This is another reading strategy we learned today. We have also been using this strategy in our writing to stretch out words and listen to all of the sounds. Today during Reading time we practiced this strategy by looking at some new words and stretching them out. This is also a great strategy for me to practice at home when we are reading together tonight!
Ask me all about the special program we had in our classroom today. Two ladies from Susan B Anthony came to our class (and the other classes in the building) to do activities we us. We listened to a story called, Hands Are Not For Hurting. We talked about all of the nice ways we can use our hands. Then as a class, we made a poster that says, "Hands Are Not For Hurting" and we all traced our hand prints and wrote our names. We are going to hang this poster in our classroom as a reminder. We had fun reading the story and talking about all of the helpful ways we can use our hands.
Ask me about the word "compare." Today during Math Workshop we compared shoes from around the school. We had many different shoes from teachers in the building. It was fun to see all of the different sizes. We learned that compare means "to figure out if things are the same or different." We found that some teachers have shoes that are the same size and some are different. Mr. Spino had the biggest shoe of all! We watched a special video all about the word compare!
Ask me all about Lips the Fish. This week we are focusing on our reading strategies. Today we learned about Lips the Fish who reminds us to get our mouth ready to say the first sound when we are reading a word. We practiced this strategy in our reading groups today. When we are reading together at night, practice this with me!
Ask me all about Math activities with our 6th grade friends. This afternoon we got together with our buddies and worked on Math activities. We got to show them all that we are learning in our class and teach them how to do all of our favorite activities. We love to spend time with our 6th grade friends. We were excited to teach them some new things!
Ask me about the new word we learned today, "measure." We learned that it means to "use a tool to find out how long or tall something is." In Math, we are measuring things in our classroom. Today we measured our shoes using connecting cubes. We are going to be measuring lots of other shoes too in the days ahead. There are so very special shoes making an appearance in kindergarten! Wait to see who it might be.
Ask me all about writing exciting beginnings. We are working so hard writing stories about our lives. Today we brainstormed ideas to make our readers excited to read our writing by "catching their attention." We had so many creative ideas and we can't wait to write more tomorrow! Ask me all about our Veteran's Day assembly today. Each grade did something special to celebrate the veterans. All of the kindergartners sang a special song titled, American Soldier. We have been practicing every day. We were very excited to sing for the veterans.. After our assembly, we had lunch in the cafeteria and some of the veterans came to join us. It was a very special day. |
